In Loving Memory

Larry L Hoover 1943-2015

Larry L. Hoover, age 72, road off into the sunset on Thursday, July 16, 2015 in Slidell, Louisiana. Larry was born on March 10, 1943 with a horseman’s spirit in Sedalia, Missouri.

According to Larry, he wasn’t a cowboy, he was a horseman. He didn’t have cows, he rode horses. He was many things in his life to different people.

One example of his adventurous spirit shines when he chose to ride across country on horseback with his horse, L.D’s Red Pepper, a registered Appaloosa. Starting on January 31, 1976, they rode from Otterville, Missouri to Jackson, Alabama, finishing up on March 24, 1976. He was 33 years young at the time and was on the road for 52 days.  Over time, he ended up in the New Orleans area and decided to continue the cross country adventure at least two more times.

He went on to become one of the founders of the Mudpuppies Motorcycle Club that has international members. That’s right – he rode “metal horses” too.

In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with the grand-children, teaching them how to be kind to animals, camp comfortably and generally enjoy the world around them. He was always available to lend a hand or hug away the boo-boo’s.  He was the best grandpa anyone could ever ask for.

He is survived by his son, Montgomery Hoover; daughter-in-law, Jean; granddaughters, Victoria and Tegan; his brothers, Rick, Eldon, Randy, Jim Carter and sister, Bonnie Helm.
